To find out what people wanted in their action/thriller
movies and in movies as a whole, we conducted interviews with those people and
asked them about their favorite movies, what they like to see, what they want
to see, and what they didn’t want to see in movies in the genre and movies as a
whole. We interviewed people from our target audience and people who were not
from our target audience.
We first asked about whether the interviewer liked action/thriller films and why they did. Mr Higgins said that he likes them because he finds them entertaining and high impact. Mr Benzie said that he likes some action thriller films, but he doesn’t like generic action/thriller films because he thinks they are the same thing over and over.We also asked what would be the interviewee’s favourite action thriller film. Mr Higgins said that Die Hard would be his favourite because the actor Bruce Willis acted tough the whole way through, even in moments that would have him be gentler. Mr Benzie likes films made by Alfred Hitchcock, such as Vertigo because of the women in it and there is always a nice twist at the end.
Next we asked about what the interviewee would like to see in an action thriller film. Mr Higgins commented that he wants to see things like explosions, good overcoming bad and a good thought out story line. Mr Benzie would like to see more depth in an action thriller film by having less action/thriller conventions.
We asked about the gender of the main characters, and found out that (in the case of Mr. Higgins) the gender of the main character does not matter because he thinks that only the acting quality matters, however a male lead character is preferred because he can identify with the character easier. Mr Benzie said that a female lead is good; however a male lead is easier to identify with.
Our target audience interviews have revealed that people
want to see more realistic girls that are less sexualised (like a bond girl) or
muscular (like Tomb Raider) but more like a normal person which is easier to
identify with. We also have learnt that people like to see more conventional
things in an action movie such as car crashes, fighting and a good plot/story.
The female characters in our movie opening are normal
looking people who are in abnormal situations which sticks to what people
wanted to see in the movie opening. The character Emma is also easy to identify
with which is something that the interviewees also wanted. We achieved this by giving the character Emma normal clothes and make up.
We added enigma to the film opening which is something the
interviewees didn’t mention, but we wanted the enigma to be there because we
thought that they would like it. However, the enigma makes the story line
better which is something that the interviewees wanted. The enigma also makes
things more tense and exciting, which is good for the film.
I think that it would be good to promote our film in
cinemas, because many people who watch movies will see it there, and on the
internet because of the mainstream audience that we have. T.V. adverts would be
a good place to promote the movie as well because of the target audience age
being mature.
